The Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus Character Book Tag

I missed the Percy Jackson train.

I read maybe half of the first book when it came out and spent years trying to find a DVD copy of the Logan Lerman film adaptation.

Other than that, I have no knowledge of the series.

BUT WAIT. All of you seem really excited about the new PJO Disney+ series and I’m excited FOR you! Excited enough to…start reading the books?

(No promises.)

In the meantime, May from Forever and Everly made this book tag (along with the graphics) and it is GRAND.

Seriously, her graphics are excellent and the prompts are EVEN BETTER.

RULES

  • Thank the person who tagged you and link to their post.
  • Link to the original creator: May @ Forever and Everly! Please note that she made the artwork/graphics, if using them.
  • Match books with the given prompts.
  • Tag however many people as wanted!
  • Copy-paste the rules and list of prompts.

My TWO FAVORITE books SO FAR this year are Felix Ever After and When We Were Magic.

Both books contain MULTIPLE QUEER CHARACTERS, LOTS OF FEELINGS, AND SURPRISES GALORE.

(Speaking of surprises…take a breath [or do a shot] before you read page 5 of When We Were Magic.)

Felix has a slight edge over Magic because of the amazing romance that culminates AT THE PRIDE PARADE??? ARE YOU KIDDING??? This is the best and only trope from now on.

Both of these books contain so much personal relevance that I feel like nothing can top them.

Cathy Park Hong’s final essay in Minor Feelings: An Asian-American Reckoning knocked me out.

Minor Feelings

Hong is best known for her poetry and it shows in her essays. This book is heavy and gorgeous and hard to forget.

Not enough people gave Heavy Vinyl the love it deserved when it came out.

“Not enough people” includes ME, the foolish reader who FORGOT TO BUY VOLUME 2.

It’s a queer, all-female fight club!!!!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR????

I did not have high hopes for The Starless Sea.

Lo and behold, I gave this book five stars because I couldn’t stop laughing about the bees.

This book was epic and romantic and gorgeous, but the bees were what won me over.

The Lady Janies remind me of my writing group from college.

Every time I pick up one of their books, I feel like I’m with my friends again.

My Lady Jane is my favorite (so far) of their books.

I will always have room in my heart for silly, historically-inaccurate collabs.

By the by, this is one of my favorite fall reads along with My Plain Jane and Jane Eyre.

(I could add Jane, Unlimited to this list, but who has the time?)

Is it silly to say this is one of my favorite aspects of Peter Pan?

Penter Pa

The Darling sibs always seemed like good buds.

You need people who will have your back against pirates.

Sometimes those people are your brothers.

(Also, the Darling siblings almost match my brothers and I in age and birth order, so I imprinted on them pretty hard.)

I got very into Dept. of Speculation.

I ignored all clocks and let my bath go cold.

This book relayed a marriage’s worst case scenario in a way that comforted me.

You Can’t Touch My Hair got very good reviews (deservedly so – this book is awesome.)

You Can't Touch My Hair

A guy from my improv class casually mentioned hearing Phoebe Robinson speak at Seattle Central College.

I have never been more jealous.

Maybe if I was stranded on an island with The Water Cure, I could finally make sense of its themes.

I never noticed that the Margaret Atwood blurb in the top left corner is subtitled “from Twitter.”

THAT SEEMS REAL.

Incendiary looks very promising.

Incendiary

I heard something about a gay murder maze and clicked “Add to Cart.”

I’ll be honest: I DON’T REALLY KNOW WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT.

WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE COVER?

I’m very afraid.

(This book isn’t upcoming, but its sequel is.)

I waded through the discourse and came out determined to read Gideon the Ninth.

Gidneo tthe Ninh

After a violent internal struggle, I finally caved and ordered it along with some other wlw new releases.

It’s not here yet and I’m GOING MAD.

WHERE IS MY DEATHLESS EMPEROR? WHERE ARE MY SKELETONS?

I WAS PROMISED LESBIAN NECROMANCERS. WHY AREN’T THEY HERE?

This might shock some people.

It sure shocked me.

I’ve drafted an essay on the subject because I have a lot of feelings.

Until I publish that post, here’s the short of it:

My friend Nikita talked me into giving The Night Circus another shot.

I…didn’t hate it.

I will not be taking questions at this time.

Some of the best books I’ve ever read were Choose-Your-Own-Adventure novels.

I talk about these books a lot because they are fantastic.

I wish to one day be this creative.

Once Upon a Golden Apple was SO GOOD, I reread it four times in a row.

Once Upon a Golden Apple

It’s If You Give a Mouse a Cookie meets the improv story game.

On first glance, I failed to notice the princess either CATCHING or THROWING THAT BABY.

This is where I’m at with The Gilded Wolves and I don’t want to talk about it.

I put this book down and picked up TA-NEHISI COATES and CATHY PARK HONG INSTEAD.

THAT’S HOW I STRESSED I AM ABOUT THIS BOOK.

I love The Vanishing Stair! Five stars!

It had twists! It had turns!

There were little fires everywhere!

I still hate David but WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

The kids found a BODY.

Over the weekend, I got mad at Chaotic Good all over again.

I will never not be mad about it.

The Lover’s Dictionary and You Know Me Well gave me two realistic romances.

They weren’t the happiest of relationships, but they felt real.

In a VERY WEIRD WAY, both books remind me of the central romance in She-ra and the Princesses of Power.

READ THEM IF YOU WANT THAT TO MAKE SENSE.

That’s all of the prompts.

Did I say I would read Percy Jackson?

What if I told you I was reading backlist books instead? Would you be proud of me?

I feel like of the bloggers I follow, Jenna and Margaret will be the most excited for this tag.

If you’re also excited and I didn’t tag you, DO IT.

I COMMAND YOU.

    1. Don’t take my word for it – I still may be wrong about Incendiary! (I still think there’s a maze.)
Heavy Vinyl is really fun. Volume 2 keeps slipping on my TBR, but I have good feelings about the first volume. THe premise is just fun.
Felix is great! Cannot recommend it enough and I can’t wait for you to read it!
This was such a great tag, May! Thank you for making it!
