I did this tag last year and liked that it held me [relatively] accountable.
(I also didn’t accomplish any of the things I promised to in that post, but you know what? Intentions are half the battle.)
I also copied this tag from Elli @ AceReader last year and I’m DOING IT AGAIN.
It’s tradition now.
(Follow Elli’s blog! It’s a shot of optimism every time I go there.)
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
So many.
My Currently Reading pile is down to 9 and whittling it down that far was a struggle.
Right now I’m in the middle of:
- The Death of Vivek Oji (a super bummer of a literary novel by nonbinary author Akwaeke Emezi)
- A Deadly Education (a dark academia fantasy that came under fire recently for a racist passage about locs)
- The Priory of the Orange Tree (f/f fantasy epic involving religious wars and dragons)
- Summer Bird Blue (grief novel about an ace/aro girl who lost her sister)
- Frankissstein (a Frankenstein retelling??? I honestly have no idea what’s happening.)
- Legendborn (YA reimagining of Arthurian legend)
- The Poppy War (a brutal fantasy epic about war that has made 90% of readers cry)
I’m doing my best.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
I typically reread The Scorpio Races at the end of every year.
This year I’m also reading Ninth House because of its spooky, scary, chilly vibes.
In spite of all the horrific content, Ninth House is turning into a comfort read for me.
Though I’m pretty bummed about the canon ship that’s threatening my OTP, I’m still hype for the sequel.
Is dark academia my new favorite subgenre?
Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
I preordered A Curse of Roses by Diana Pinguicha because I think it sounds amazing.
It’s an f/f retelling of a Portuguese legend with witches and princesses. DREAM NOVEL.
It comes out next month.
Hopefully I’ll make time to read it.
What are 3 books you want to read before the end of the year?
I just picked up These Violent Delights from my local bookshop and I’d like to finish it before 2020 ends.
I’ve heard very good things, despite my CONCERNS ABOUT THE ENDING.
I WAS rereading The Lunar Chronicles and then got distracted. Scarlet is up next.
It would be nice to reread this sometime during the holidays.
I had grand plans to finish the Twilight Saga this year.
Breaking Dawn awaits me and it’s almost 800 pages.
No idea if I’ll even start this book before December.
I keep hearing that it’s wild.
I know some spoilers, but I doubt I’m prepared for the full experience.
Not after Eclipse broke me.
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favorite book of the year?
No idea!
I thought it might be A Deadly Education, but so far I am not having a good time!
I don’t know why I thought “a school that kills its students” was too dark for dark academia.
The humor isn’t landing for me.
I should also mention this is my first Naomi Novik novel and I am disappointed.
Have you already started making reading plans for 2021?
In an effort to support debut authors and sophomore releases, I ordered A LOT of books this year.
I now have six piles of books on my apartment floor.
For 2021, I’d really like to clear these piles.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to hit Powell’s and sell some of the ones I’ve finished.
Then again, that will create the problem of me buying even more books.
The cycle continues.
All right! My sights are set on achieving these goals by the end of the year!
Want to know another end-of-the-year goal I have? Flipping Georgia blue!
Georgia is currently holding a runoff election that could decide Senate control.
Donate, if you can, to the campaigns of Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock.
Both prospective senators have pledged to protect and expand affordable healthcare legislation.
Let’s flip that shit.
wow you’re reading some great books, I loved legendborn!

I feel you, I’ve moved The Death of Vivek Oji to my 2021 TBR as I have a lot of other reads planned for December. So many books so little time, am I right? https://readwithstefani.com/the-end-of-the-year-book-tag/
