YOU KNEW IT WAS COMING.
I’m so glad someone on BookTube made this tag in honor of A FANTASTIC album.
I have listened to “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” numerous times.
I’m not okay.
Anyway, book tag.
State of Grace – best opening book in a series
Toss-up between Daughter of Smoke and Bone and House of Earth and Blood.

I think the worldbuilding in both is fantastic.

Red – a book that makes you feel a whole spectrum of emotion
I felt every emotion possible while reading Heart of Iron.
My favorite types of books are character-driven adventure stories with heart.
And forbidden love.
And redheads.
And pirates.

Treacherous – a slow book that you ended up loving
I DNFed The Only Good Indians in January.
I got to the shameful inciting incident and felt nothing.
I figured, “This book isn’t that scary. Pass.”
IF I’D ONLY WAITED ONE CHAPTER.
THIS BOOK IS SO SCARY.

I Knew You Were Trouble – a book you knew would be bad and ended up being bad
I understand the appeal of Twilight.
I DO not understand why people like Crave.
I read it for kicks and did not last long.

All Too Well – the book that has stayed with you the most
Sometimes I think about the events of Bitterblue and tear up.
It’s rough, man.

22 – coming of age book
I think The Falling in Love Montage works because it blends its love story with coming-of-age themes.
It’s a beautiful ode to risk in the face of uncertainty.

I Almost Do – the one you keep almost reading and don’t
I want to read The Dragon Republic. Really. I do.
I hear it’s amazing, even better than The Poppy War.
I have it saved on Scribd.
I just…haven’t…gotten to it.

We Are Never Getting Back Together – a book you want to reread
I read Throne of Glass a few years ago and thought it was…fine.
My coworkers said I can read the rest of the series without revisiting the first book.
All right. Works for me.

Stay Stay Stay – a book everyone dislikes but you love
(Incidentally, I hate this song. Least favorite song on the album.)
I am a HUGE Maggie Stiefvater fan.
I didn’t realize this was an unpopular opinion until I joined TikTok.

The Last Time – what was the last book you read?
I finished Rise to the Sun this morning.
I found the parts dedicated to live music really moving.
I’m glad these girls found each other.

Holy Ground – a fan-favorite book
The Song of Achilles was very much not my jam.
Every other person I know loves it.
I’ll admit, the alternate covers are beautiful.
However, I never want to read this again.

Sad, Beautiful, Tragic – a book with any of these words in the title
I found Tragic (Rook & Ronin Book One) on Amazon and now I’m wondering…
…is this Raven Boys fanfic???

The Lucky One – a book about fame
The Charm Offensive is about a Bachelor-esque reality show.
Unrelated, my friend bought a copy of this that had been printed upside down??
She claims it was printed this way on purpose.
I’m still mad about it.

Everything Has Changed – a book that changed how you view something
Elissa Washuta wrote about her experiences with alcoholism in White Magic.
There were a lot of associated health effects that I wasn’t aware of.

Starlight – a book that makes you feel warm and cozy and magical
With A Court of Mist and Fury, I got to enjoy fun fantasy and romance tropes in a wintry setting.
This book scratched my nascent holiday romance itch.

Begin Again – a book you’d read on a Wednesday in a cafe
I used to frequent Cherry Street Coffee House on Sundays.
I’d grab a fancy coffee and a pastry and read for as long as I could.
On one particular Sunday, I read Marissa Meyer’s Heartless.
I don’t own that book anymore, but I think about it sometimes.
I like what Meyer did with Wonderland.
I’m still so sad about…all of that.

The Moment I Knew – a book that looks happier than it actually is
WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT BEACH READ?
THE AVERAGE PERSON ISN’T GOING TO LOOK AT THIS COVER AND DEDUCE THAT THIS BOOK DEALS WITH DEAD PARENTS AND DIVORCE.
I UGLY CRIED FOR A HUNDRED PAGES.

Come Back, Be Here – a book series you want to make a resurgence OR a book series you want to be finished/the author to come back to
I heard rumors about an animated Avalon: Web of Magic series in 2018.
I got all excited about the concept art only for the show to be canceled some time in 2019.
All I want for Christmas is an adaptation of this series.
Someone sent me the first book in a gift exchange. That works, too.

Girl At Home – a book that feels like you’re betraying your favorite book/author/character
Y’all, I didn’t like Call Down the Hawk.
I wanted to!
I like pretty much everything Maggie Stiefvater has ever written!
You’d think I’d be over the moon about a spin-off trilogy featuring my favorite character!
And I was…until I read it.
I found the Parzival content distressing.

Better Man – a book with a dark/morally grey love interest
Legendborn hooked me with its great characters.
I was already invested in Bree’s storyline.
Then Selwyn Kane appeared.
He’s on the cover of the sequel and I WANT THAT TO MEAN SOMETHING.

Babe – a book where a character gets cheated on
Yay, I get to talk about Dept. of Speculation!
It’s a stream-of-consciousness narrative about a woman processing her husband’s infidelity.
I loved it.
I usually don’t tag people in book tags.
This time I will in honor of Sagittarius season (and just in general.)
I tag:
Meghan ~ Sofi ~ Sahi ~ Kait ~ Riddhi ~ Evelyn ~ ikwords
Happy Red (Taylor’s Version), to those who observe.
Thank you so much for the tag!

Yay!! Loved reading this!
Omg I so agree with you about Stay Stay Stay! It’s my least fave song on the album too and I ALWAYS skip it 😅
Ok, everyone is telling me how good A Song of Achilles is so I’ve placed a request at the library to see what the hype is all about. I am intrigued, we shall see when it comes in!
I can’t wait to do this, thanks for tagging me! 😊

Thank you! Also THANK YOU for validating me, Stay Stay Stay frustrates me so much!
I would love to know what you think of it! I think I’m just not a Madeline Miller person, because Circe didn’t really hit for me either.
Can’t wait to see your answers!

You’re welcome!
So I finished The Song of Achilles this past weekend and I can see why people loved it; the writing was beautiful and I thought it was a nice love, slow, story – but it was kinda too slow for me because it took a lot of time for me to really get into the story. By the end I was like WHAT did I just read 😂 So I like didn’t, but I didn’t completely love it. I am curious about Circe.
