TOP TEN TUESDAY: 2021 releases I was excited about but didn’t get to

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is calling me out.

I read 200+ books last year and somehow still missed these. They were on my TBR and everything.

These are books that came out last year that I was excited about but forgot to read.

Will I prioritize them after posting this? You know I will not.

Bacchanal by Veronica G Henry

Bacchanal by Veronica G Henry

This is a historical horror-fantasy about ancient evil at a traveling carnival.

I have been following this book since 2020.

It came out and instantly left my thoughts.

Inexcusable.

A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas

I bought the ACOTAR box set so I could read the books on my own time rather than sit through 25 hours of audiobook.

I saw myself finishing the series before the end of the year.

Whoops.

The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris

My friend Kait read and loved this book.

It sounds great and also incredibly stressful and infuriating.

School upped my stress levels enormously at the end of the year, so I avoided this book in favor of fantasy romance.

Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur

Hang the Moon by Alexandria Bellefleur

The author of one of my favorite romances released a follow-up.

I saw it every time I visited my local bookstore.

I must be intimated by it, because I avoided it at all costs.

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

I was devastated when publication on this book was delayed.

It’s sapphic fantasy with plant magic! I wanted to read it ASAP.

I finally received my copy, put the book on my shelf, and did not read it.

The more I thought about it, the more intimidating a 500+ high fantasy book sounded.

I have a few more spoons now.

The Unbroken by C. L. Clark

My friends’ excitement about this book transferred over to me.

I’ve seen this book prominently displayed in numerous bookstores.

I’m so happy for the author.

Still haven’t read this one.

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan

I read a quarter of this book, then had to return it to the library.

I meant to pick it back up.

It made a ton of bloggers’ Best Of lists, so I’m intrigued.

I really liked the parts I read.

A Broken Blade by Melissa Blair

A Broken Blade: The Halfling Saga

There was a whole TikTok mystery surrounding this book’s release.

It is definitely on my radar now.

I wasn’t able to find a copy before the year ended. I’ll try to pick it up this year.

Sweet & Bitter Magic by Adrienne Tooley

I have genuinely been hyped about this since its was announced in 2019.

WHY HAVEN’T I READ IT YET??

A Dark and Starless Forest by Sarah Hollowell

A Dark and Starless Forest by Sarah Hollowell

Dark YA fantasy with a fat queer heroine.

This is everything I want in fiction.

I was just BUSY.

Now that I’ve written about these books, I feel semi-motivated to read them.

We’ll see how long that motivation lasts!
