The Quarter Year Crisis Book Tag

We’re FOUR MONTHS INTO THE YEAR SOMEHOW.

THAT’S…FINE.

I found this tag, originally created by Roisin’s Reading, at Fortunately, The book.

And yes, I am doing this instead of homework! Huzzah!

(I did one practice exercise, then called it a day. I’m doing my absolute best.)

How many books have you read so far?

I’ve read 55 books so far in 2022!

Have you already found a book you think might be a 2022 favorite? If not, what was your favorite book you read that wasn’t quite five stars?

My favorite book of the year so far MIGHT be The Councillor. I am fully obsessed with it.

The Councillor by E. J. Beaton

Intrigue! Romance! Politics! Magic! War! Betrayal! Pining!

There’s going to be a sequel and I am LOSING IT.

A book that I loved that wasn’t quite five stars was The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

I picked up an illustrated copy at Auntie’s in Spokane.

It’s a REALLY BEAUTIFUL BOOK.

Any 1 star books / least favorite book of the year?

Instead of finishing books I dislike, I’ve opted to DNF those books this year.

My least favorite of all the books I DNFed was Harrow the Ninth.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

What a colossal waste of my time.

In my view, this book is what happens when you show everything and refuse to tell readers anything.

This book went to the “I don’t know, figure it out” school of plotting.

I kept checking the wiki for things I might be missing, which strikes me as a big, flapping red flag.

Me not being able to follow the plot makes it clever, I guess.

This book can go suck eggs in hell.

Most read genre so far?

I have read mostly fantasy this year.

A book that surprised you?

I bought The Dragon’s Bride for some silly fun.

The Dragon's Bride by Katee Robert

Surprise! This book is about HEALING FROM ABUSE.

The female lead grapples with wanting to feel safe and wanting to feel wanted.

There’s a consensual sex scene that both leads later feel weird about! So they talk about it!

I DID NOT EXPECT THIS BOOK TO GO SO HARD.

IT MIGHT MAKE MY TOP TEN.

Book that’s come out in 2022 already that you want to read but haven’t yet?

Ali Hazelwood released three novellas this year! I haven’t been able to read them yet but I want to!

Emily Henry has a new book coming out called Book Lovers that I preordered a million years ago. It looks like it will DESTROY me.

I just ordered Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan and could not be more obsessed with the cover. I’m really looking forward to read it.

One goal you made that you’re succeeding at

I decided that I own TOO MANY BOOKS and whittled down my collection.

Like, MAJOR unhaul.

Seeing how many books I got rid of made me to decide to stop buying books and start getting more books from the library.

So far, I’ve gotten most of this year’s reads from the library! Success!

One goal you made you need to focus on

I made a list of all the books I own that I haven’t read yet (not counting any new acquisitions.)

I’d like to read every book on that list by the end of the year.

Three more quarters to go.

I just unhauled a few more books that, in my heart of hearts, I knew I wasn’t going to read.

Here’s to books I actually enjoy and sequels that don’t suck eggs in hell.
