Subscription Box Post: Books That Matter – April 2020

My Books That Matter April box came ON TIME and I NEGLECTED TO WRITE ABOUT IT UNTIL NOW.

Because I live in the States and Books That Matter is U.K.-based, I sometimes have the content of the monthly boxes spoiled for me by other happy customers.

Oh well.

Even though I knew some of what I was getting, I was VERY pleased and excited to open my April box.

The theme for this box was Black Women’s History Month and came with TWO books!

Let’s unbox it together.

Pink, red, and white bookmark

I have so many bookmarks by now, I could open a bookmark shop!

(I doubt my local bookstore would appreciate me reselling their bookmarks, though…)

This one is on thickish cardstock and has a Toni Morrison quote on one side:

You are your best thing.

Laptop sticker

Designer: Nicola Darwen

The sticker is red and circular with the words “Phenomenal Women” (after the Maya Angelous poem) and the hashtag #BWHM on it.

I put it on my laptop next to my NaNoWriMo stickers.

Vegan cookie

Baker: Abigail Amankwa @ M&H Cake Company

The cookie had red icing stamped with a “Phenomenal Women” graphic similar to the laptop sticker.

It is LONG GONE. I ate it the minute I saw it.

Beyoncé socks

Designer: Holly @ Rock On Ruby

THE SOCKS ARE PINK AND RED AND HAVE LIGHTNING BOLTS AND THE SLOGAN “RUN THE WORLD” ON THEM.

I WORE THESE AND FELT LIKE A CHAMPION.

Beloved by Toni Morrison

I read Beloved in March and had FEELINGS about it.

Beloved brit

Surprise! I now have my own copy!

I might save this book for an October reread because it is SCARY.

We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I already own this book in hardcover. Now I own it in PAPERBACK!

We Should All Be Feminists

I prefer this copy’s cover and use of large font.

It’s been a few years since I read it, so I might as well read it again!

I have one box left in my Books That Matter subscription.

After next month’s box arrives, I’ll take a break from this company to try out other subscription services (e.g., Fairy Loot and Call Number.)

May there be cookies and socks in every one.
