Summer is winding down and I’m thirsty all the time.

A boring book with one interesting element
I wouldn’t call The Lovely War boring.
The book is good, by all accounts, but WWI doesn’t really engage my interest.
I took a chance on a mythology-infused historical romance and it didn’t work out.
A book you’re thirsting after
So sayeth Pam Grossman: “In addition to its content, one of the greatest gifts a book can offer is a path to more books[.]”
Reading the author endorsements for Waking the Witch expanded my TBR significantly.
I’ve seen Kristen J. Sollee’s Witches Sluts Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive around.
Her blurb in Waking the Witch piqued my interest in her book.
A book you regret reading
“Regret” is a strong word, but I felt dirty and sad after reading American Girls.
Blame Charles Manson.
No one in this book gets a purely happy ending, and the characters who stay in L.A. continue to struggle.
Realistic, sure, but hard to take.
A book you like more for the cover than for the content
If I gave books stars (which I do not), I would have given The Summer of Jordi Perez three-and-a-half stars out of five.
It was cute. The story itself was fine. I liked the food and outfit descriptions.
BUT THE COVER.
Maybe, if I had more room in my apartment, I’d keep this beauty around.
Pretty as it is, though, I don’t want to reread it.
A fluffy book you can’t help loving
PRINCESS. IN. PINK.
At least five pages in this book contain the word “prom” in giant font with dozens of Os.
This book is absoLUTEly an escapist fantasy for me.
YES, I HAVE PRINCESS FANTASIES, TOO!
PINK IS MY FAVORITE COLOR!
I WANT A SHINY, MAGIC PRINCESS DRESS THAT LOOKS LIKE AN ENGAGEMENT RING!
A book you read to look cool
I nabbed a whole STACK of books from the library in the hopes of impressing my partner.
I didn’t end up reading any of the following, despite the cool points they would have given me:
- An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green
- Queen’s Shadow by E. K. Johnston
- Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
There were others in this pile, all books I’m ashamed to admit I passed on.
Looks like I let peer pressure dictate MANY of my reading decisions.
A book that got your heart racing
Sure, Nikita, I’ll read your favorite immersive sci-fi/horror action-adventure epistolary YA novel.
DON’T LOOK AT ME.
A book that made you feel better after you finished
At the time I read Since You’ve Been Gone, I felt really insecure about a long-distance friendship.
I feared being a “bad friend” who didn’t do enough.
This book taught me that others don’t determine my worth.
The friendship I mentioned turned toxic, so I ended it.
I took some time to myself, eased into a new church community, and made new friends.
I no longer feel like I have to sacrifice my whole self to keep a relationship going.
I can relax for once.
A book you could read forever
Will Heart and Brain ever lose its charm?
I hope not.
It’s perfect for a mood boost.
A book you keep hearing about but haven’t read
Per many readers, The Gilded Wolves is the queer, diverse heist novel we’ve all been craving.
Per my girlfriend, the last 10 pages ruin the book.
My interest in this book waxes and wanes.
Is it not enough that I despised The Star-Touched Queen?
And yet…queer thieves! Family of choice! Bi rep + magic!!! WOLVES!
A traditional beach read
The Summer of Good Intentions is NOT GREAT.
I know beach reads get a bad rap, but this one deserves the critique.
The resolution is downright OFFENSIVE.
Sex on the beach
A book with a provocative title
Besides Witches Sluts Feminists?
Y’all know I’m thinking of an Inga Muscio book, but my parents read this blog.
Oh my, I just came across a future favorite:
Castration is a c-word I can handle.
My favorite drink
Iced coffee. I’m basic as hell.
I’M STILL THIRSTY.
WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE?
Maybe my thirst will be quenched if y’all DO THIS TAG.
(Mom, I’m not actually thirsty. Everything’s fine.)
