Dreamy Book Cover Tag

Jenna tagged me in this visually-inspired book tag.

I found out last year that – surprise, surprise – I learn visually after years of claiming to be an auditory processor.

Turns out being a musician does not an auditory processor make.

For this tag, I got to pick some of my favorite book covers, which is a dream come true.

Before you read this post, check out Jenna’s post – she picked some stunning books.

No Ideas but in Things

A book cover that perfectly expresses the novel inside it

lsd

This cover promises fluffy, wintry fun.

The Valentine’s season either starts or ends the story, so the pink/red motif fits.

Dark and Lovely

A book cover that is so creepalicious you just want to eat it up

I’m committed to Tough Girl Chic.

I couldn’t fight someone if I tried, but I pile my denim jacket with enamel pins as if I could.

In a pretty perfect example of Tough Girl Chic, I used to wear a black, vintage-inspired cardigan with a patch that read “Girl Gang.”

I recognized the Tough Girl aesthetic the first time I laid eyes on Undead Girl Gang.

Yes, the zombie pin gives me nightmares.

I’m so into the premise that I don’t care.

Sugar Sweet

A cute cover that is so fluffy you want to give it a hug

I fell in love with Fangirl before I knew what it was about.

fangirl

I can talk more about why I hated the book the first time in a different post; in short, I found a much more emotionally-involved story than I’d wanted.

I reread this book recently and I’m glad my love for the soft green cover now matches my delight in the story.

Complex as my feelings about the book are, the cover makes me smile every time I see it.

The Simplistic Aesthetic

A book cover that stuns with the most minimalist of designs

I haven’t read Why I’m No Longer Talking (To White People) About Race.

race

With this cover, though, I want to.

Cover Envy

A book cover you wish you had on your shelves but don’t yet

Are you KIDDING me with these new covers?

My reaction to the first Eternal Edition of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon went along the lines of, “THAT IS SO BEAUTIFUL, I MUST OWN IT.”

THE SECOND VOLUME IS EVEN PRETTIER!

Sailor Mercury is a gorgeous human being. Seriously. This is a work of art.

Travelling Abroad

A beautiful book cover featuring a country outside of your own

I can’t identify the country depicted on Nocturnes.

Who cares, though?

nocturnes

This is the design the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy should have had.

The Color Wheel

A cover that showcases one of your favorite colors

I own too many items in blue.

l belle sauvage

Just look.

Feast your eyes.

I’m not that into Philip Pullman and I still consider purchasing this book during weekly trips to the bookstore.

Switching Gears

A cover change that you absolutely adore

I loved Jane Unlimited’s original cover. The shiny silver dust jacket told me nothing about the plot, keeping me guessing for months.

jane unlimited

I believed myself content until the paperback release.

Fam

This might seem like a weird left turn, but this change captures the story’s weirder elements.

Both covers, though different, are completely accurate.

Future editions might depict a field of umbrellas or a family of blue frogs.

Weird images, yes, but they’d fit the story.

Oldie but Goodie

A favorite book cover of your favorite classic

I can’t kick my devotion to Jane Austen’s Emma.

Oldie but goodie, indeed.

I stop myself from buying the many beautiful editions of this book that exist, but this embroidered Penguin classic tempts me to break that rule.

And the winner is….

Which cover mentioned above is your favorite?

No contest – Ami Mizuno wins every time.

The word “pretty” is IN THE TITLE.

Winner by a landslide.

  1. ❤ ❤ ❤ <3!!!! I love that Sailor Moon cover! Ugh! Some mangas have such beautiful covers! I really like the "white background" and then BURST of colour manga covers that seem to be popular as of late 🙂

The Book of Dust cover is stunning – that's my favourite colour too! I feel as though that's one of my bias' towards liking Sailor Mercury ha-ha!!

Great list! I'm glad you had fun with it!

  2. It does seem to be a trend. Mangas get away with using pastels…but in a beautiful, artful way. How are these soft colors working so well?

Is there a blue conspiracy in publishing? I’ve seen a ton of royal blue books as of late. Not that I’m complaining… And Mercury’s outfit is seriously the best, to the point that I wish every Sailor Scout wore blue.

Thank you! And thanks again for tagging me!
