Book Bucket List Tag

So many good tags this summer! I approve!

Kristin shared her Book Bucket List recently. I don’t like making plans, but this tag proposed fun plans instead of serious, financial plans.

Into it.

What book or series that intimidates you (because of length, density, or subject) would feel like an accomplishment to finish?

The A Darker Shade of Magic series feels…heavy.

That’s why I haven’t made much progress in the series.

Each book is just so looooooong.

I’d like to finish this series by the end of the year, just to say I’ve read it.

What author would you like to coauthor a book with?

I LOVE Kristin Cashore’s writing. She writes exactly the types of stories that I like and her book Jane, Unlimited sort of blew my mind.

And her strongly-feminist worldbuilding is just so good?

I really struggle with fantasy worldbuilding and I want to learn from Cashore.

And I’d nudge her to include more ace-friendly, slow-burn ships.

This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

If you could interview any author for your blog, who would it be? What’s one question you would ask?

I would die if Maggie Stiefvater agreed to be interviewed for my blog.

Reads Rainbow and Ace of Bens have author interviews on their blogs and I’m SO IMPRESSED.

Consummate professionals.

Anyway. Maggie Stiefvater.

I really love her mythology-based stories.

I obviously love The Scorpio Races and liked All the Crooked Saints much more than I’d planned.

I’d want to know if Stiefvater has any more kelpie novels planned. If not, I’d like to know about other magical creatures. Say sirens or something fun.

Now I’m just thinking about The Scorpio Races.

As a writer, what genre is out of your comfort zone that you’d like to conquer someday and write within?

I would love to write sci-fi similar to The Lunar Chronicles.

It’s my favorite series of all time and perfectly captures the spirit of Star Wars blended with familiar fairy tales.

The space and technology parts of sci-fi bore me, though.

How do I write The Lunar Chronicles without mechanical knowledge? Because I DOOOOOON’T care.

What specific edition of a book would you like to own someday? It could be rare, a first edition, an anniversary edition, signed, or one with a special cover to you, etc.

I’m afraid to buy this book because I’m not in love with the series, but the His Dark Materials collection is so beautiful.

I’d love to reread the series in style.

Are there any books or bookish editions you’d like to collect?

I see custom-made Pop! figurines of beloved book characters ALL THE TIME and am filled with powerful jealousy.

I’d love a Pop! figurine of Ronan Lynch. Or Felicity Montague. Or Kyo Sohma.

Mostly Ronan. I love him so much.

Name one bookish place you’d like to visit. (Not somewhere you’d like to visit because of a book and not a fictional place within a book. A library, a bookstore, etc.)

I googled some London bookshops because London seems like a bookish place.

Two stuck out to me:

Bookshop on the Heath has a bright mint exterior and allegedly stocks “unusual items” and “ephemera.”

The shop also sells film and TV posters, AKA my VERY favorite type of art.

Let me plaster my walls with loving homages to Star Wars, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Shape of Water.

Nomad Books NOT ONLY has a cafe (yus) and a book club (deffo), but also offers READING CLINICS. In these, an advisor will PICK BOOKS FOR YOU??? It’s like a tarot reading, but I get BOOKS out of it???? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

I’ve googled the shop and it looks like some of the stores I visited in Morocco.

Name one bookish event you’d like to attend. (A festival, a signing, a book fair, etc.)

I’m not a big romance reader, but I’d like to attend the Romance Writers of American conference just to observe.

Romance readers have good energy, so a big group of them must be extra fun to be around.

Your WIP is getting published and designing the cover is solely up to you! What does it look like?

So much power…

My very first book would:

  • be holographic
  • have a stars/space motif
  • feature a magical steed of some kind
  • need gold accents

(For inspiration, view the following)

Admit it. My book would look amazing.

What’s one thing you’d like to accomplish within the bookish world? As a writer, reader, blogger, whatever you want.

I. Love. Discussing. Books.

Also, public speaking. Seriously. I majored in it.

I have a performative intellectual streak that I’d like to show off more. Give me all your attention.

AND I’m hilarious. Book me for your graduation now!

All that to say I’d love to start a podcast or vlog with a book buddy who loves to analyze books as much as I do.

It would be more of a general discussion than a specific review channel.

I’d also love to be on a queer YA panel with other authors, provided I actually got an opportunity to talk. (What if Jonathan Franzen shows up and sucks all the air out of the room?)

I can’t see myself ever being published for fiction, so I wouldn’t necessarily have a REASON to be on these panels. Even so, THIS IS MY DREAM.

This is a VERY fun tag.

I want to know your greatest book dreams.

Tag yourselves and your friends.

Best my bookshop finds.

Tell me your darkest book secrets.

Actually, don’t do that last one.

Or do. I support you.
