So FUN STORY.
I thought this was Top Ten Tuesday LAST week.
When I saw everyone posting their holiday TBRs instead, I reformatted my entire post and did Top Five Tuesday.
GOOD ONE, LAUREN.
MY BRAIN IS SOUP.
You Are Your Own: A Reckoning with the Religious Trauma of Evangelical Christianity by Jamie Lee Finch
I got Pure: Inside the Evangelical Movement a Generation of Young Women and How I Broke Free by Linda Kay Klein and Shameless: A Sexual Reformation by Nadia Bolz-Weber for my birthday last year.
Jamie’s book would dovetail nicely with those books, which I LOVED.
Another fun fact: this book’s original cover was banned on Instagram.
Hooray for nudity!
Texts From Jane Eyre and Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary Characters by Daniel M. Lavery
(A note to helpful friends and family: the author originally published this book under the last name Ortberg.)
I passed on a chance to buy this book at Powell’s.
I regret this.
After rereading My Plain Jane, I am even more in the mood for irreverent reimaginings of the Jane/Rochester relationship.
DC: Women of Action by Shea Fontana
I only like history if I can look at pictures.
This sucker has comic book art featuring some of my favorite heroines.
If I had a coffee table, this book would go on it.
Magic for Liars by Sarah Gailey
I believe this is about twins and a murder at a magic school.
I really don’t want this to turn into another The Night Circus situation.
BE GOOD, PLEASE.
Crier’s War by Nina Varela
QUEER ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS SCI-FI ANDROID ROMANCE, Y’ALL.
LOOK HOW PRETTY.
The limited edition cover is even more stunning.
Tarnished Are the Stars by Rosiee Thor
I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS BOOK FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS.
I really would love to read it.
It’s SHINY.
There’s ROMANCE.
One character is an AROMANTIC SPACE JAVERT.
GIVE it to me.
The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson
The paperback for this book FINALLY came out.
I was SO ANGRY when the case wasn’t solved in the previous book.
I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.
Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore
McLemore wrote this before they came out as non-binary.
Recently, they posted some passages from the book that alluded to their coming-out journey.
I’ve been meaning to read more of their books, so this would be a great one to add to my pile before Dark and Deepest Red comes out!
Bunny by Mona Awad
This book has me QUITE intrigued.
I’m getting Suspiria and The Perfection vibes, with a little bit of Sawkill Girls.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin
I have mixed feelings about this book.
I’ve heard it’s bad, I’ve heard it’s great.
I don’t know why, but it reminds me so much of the movie Them That Follow, which really turns me off.
And yet…I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE FRENCH WITCH HUNTERS.
I feel like the characters have to get fake married????
IS THAT TRUE??
This is a must-read.
Happy Christmas Eve, belated Christmas Adam, and third day of Hanukkah!
Best of luck in your bookish endeavors!
The Vanishing Stair is also on my list this week! I read and enjoyed it earlier thid year (though not quite as much as the first book) and can’t wait for the last book to come out in 2020! I’m also really interested in Bunny. Hope you receive some of these and have a wonderful Christmas!

Yeah, I keep hearing that The Vanishing Stair wasn’t quite as good. I still need to know what happens! The mystery is so compelling!
Also, read and loved your list! Have a great Christmas – hope you get some of the books you want!
