End of Autumn Recap Tag

I’ve been in winter mode for weeks now.

Sorry, fall. You’ve been forgotten.

Diana posted this great seasonal recap tag.

Now that it’s almost Christmas, it’s time to summarize my fall reading experience.

WATCH ME.

ARE YOU WATCHING?

MOM. ARE YOU WATCHING?

Which book can you not stop thinking about?

In the Dream House is obviously going on my Best of 2019 list.

In the Dream House

WE ALL KNEW IT WAS COMING.

I didn’t reread it immediately after finishing it, but I really wanted to!!

This book really hit me.

I am in awe of what Carmen Maria Machado accomplished.

Which book would you rather have not read?

Aside from Wayward Son?

Everyone else I follow seems to love Tillie Walden’s books.

I thrust aside all my misgivings about Walden to read are you listening?

Are you listening

I took a risk and had a largely unpleasant reading experience.

I’m so FRUSTRATED.

I’ve basically boycotted Walden at this point.

What genre did you read the most?

Last season, I read a lot of books on the fantasy spectrum that I’m not sure how to categorize.

Are they magical realism? Urban fantasy?

What counts as fantasy and/or magical realism?

What is The Raven Cycle, pray tell?

Which book surprised you the most?

I didn’t expect to love They Both Die at the End so much.

They Both Die at the End

Sometimes I think about a scene near the end and tear up.

Oh, my heart.

Runner-up is definitely Astro Poets.

Astro Poets

I’m usually disappointed by bestsellers; this book made a believer out of me.

Which book disappointed you the most?

LET ME SCREAM ABOUT WAYWARD SON FOR SEVERAL MORE HOURS.

Wayward Son

I saw the outline for this book and it is as skeletal as the book itself.

You waited four years to give me a sequel based on geography jokes and wereskunks?

WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS?

This sequel made it really hard to enjoy Call Down the Hawk in early November.

I was too afraid CTDH would hurt me the way Wayward Son did.

What was your favorite cover?

Another tie!

I love Astro Poets, because how could I not?

Astro Poets

A great contender is His Hideous Heart, because COME ON.

His Hideous Heart

So gory. Very macabre.

What was your favorite fall/autumn release?

In the Dream House had been out for five days when I picked it up.

In the Dream House

I rarely purchase new releases this early and I have zero regrets about buying this one.

I ALMOST BOUGHT A COPY for the family gift exchange; that’s how much I loved it.

Which books did you plan on reading, but you never got around to?

I said I would read both Northanger Abbey and Mansfield Park, which seems hilarious now. Like I could finish a 500 page classic during NANOWRIMO.

I also wanted to read The Bone Witch and reread Bitterblue.

I haven’t done either yet.

Which books do you plan on reading in the winter?

…don’t ask me this.

Bitterblue might be a good winter read.

Bitterblue

I also really want to get to Small Town Hearts.

Small Town Hearts

I know I keep saying this!!

I also own a bunch of sequels that I’ve been neglecting. Whoops.

It would be nice to cross Dreams of Gods and Monsters and Our Dark Duet off my list.

Leaves

That was it.

That was autumn.

I know I’m late in summarizing it.

Ignore the man behind the curtain!
