I COULD HAVE SWORN I’D ALREADY DONE THIS TAG.
APPARENTLY NOT!
Emer did this recently and she killed it, as always.
I want to rag on books, too.
A popular book or series that you didn’t like
I know The Art of Racing in the Rain was on the bestseller list for a while, but I HATED this book SO MUCH.
I rated it one-star and ranted about it on Goodreads.
I think this book is victim-blamey, misogynistic trash.
As far as series go, a friend tried to get me into Gotham Academy.
I didn’t connect with it at all.
I read the first volume and passed on the rest of the series.
A popular book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love
Deerskin is my favorite book so far this year.
I fell deeply in love with this book and wept for DAYS after I finished.
It rivals Magic For Liars and Blood Water Paint, two other favorites of mine.
No one else on Goodreads likes it as much as I do.
I also loved Penelope – it mirrors my first year of college beat for beat – but very few readers on Goodreads enjoyed the humor.
Oh well.
A love triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with OR an OTP that you don’t like
When it comes to literary love triangles, I am usually on the losing team.
This was certainly true for The Summer I Turned Pretty.
Conrad is an asshole whose bad behavior is completely unacceptable.
No way that boy deserves endgame privilege.
A popular book genre that you hardly reach for
I don’t like contemporary fiction very much.
It’s fine if the plot is “a boy and a girl don’t like each other”….as long as they are also wizards…and they have pet hawks.
I’m also not one for mysteries. They’re just not my thing.
A popular or beloved character that you do not like
I don’t find characters like Carswell Thorne charming.
I know he’s a fan favorite, but I really don’t care for him.
Arrogance and swagger are two of my biggest turn-offs.
A popular author that you can’t seem to get into
I’ve read a LOT of Sarah Dessen books over the years and I don’t get the hype.
I officially gave up on Sarah Dessen in 2015 when I tried reading Keeping the Moon for the fourth time and couldn’t get into it.
I tried.
A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing
I’ve seen this trope crop up more and more since the 2016 election and I CANNOT STAND IT.
I’m begging publishers: PLEASE STOP PUSHING THE “BOTH SIDES HAVE A POINT” TROPE.
It falls SO, SO FLAT.
I encountered it most recently in Serpent & Dove, a VERY misguided attempt at grey and gray morality.
The Chasseurs are misogynists who murder young girls and dehumanize witches.
Their enemies, the witches, have been oppressed for generations…but they want to kill the king and that’s bad.
UUUUUGGGGHHHH.
IT’S NOT THE SAME.
A popular series that you have no interest in reading
I have no plans to read the Folk of the Air books.
Nothing about it appeals to me.
I see the hype with each successive book and I feel nothing.
The saying goes “The book is always better than the film”, but what film or TV show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
To be honest…I like most Austen adaptations better than the source material.
Sense & Sensibility is my favorite film. The book can’t compare.
I still can’t believe I haven’t done this tag before.
If you haven’t either – or you HAVE and you want to do it again – I tag you.
Share your unpopular opinions PLEASE.
I LOVE to know the unpopular opinions of others, it’s always fun!😊
I think my most unpopular opinion is that I HATE The Hating Game 😅

Me, too! I love coming across “unpopular” opinions that I secretly share!
“Hate” is in the title, so you hating that book makes total sense!

LOL, you’re right! I knew there was nothing wrong with my opinion 😂

I am so with you on The Cruel Prince. So not interested.

Right? I have nothing against it, I just…really don’t care about it.
