The New Releases Book Tag

Hey hey! ANOTHER book tag? Yes, and this one is about 2021 releases!

This tag was created by Ellyn @ Allonsythornraxx.

Do the tag yourself and tell me about some of your favorite new releases!

A new release you’ve already read

I read It’s Kind of Cheesy Love Story a few weeks after its publication.

It's Kind of a Cheesy Love Story by Lauren Morrill

I thought it was cute! I liked that the characters discussed what makes a good pizza!

Everyone became friends and the town came together at the end.

This book was just fun.

A new release that’s already come out but you haven’t read yet

I got Lost in the Never Woods as an audiobook but haven’t listened to it yet.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas, author of Cemetery Boys

I initially wasn’t super interested in this book.

…I love Peter Pan. So I’m going to check it out.

A new release you just found out about

I learned about Claribel Ortega’s Witchlings just recently.

Withclings by Claribel A. Ortega, Author of Ghost Squad

I love it and I want it more than anything.

It’s about students at a witch school who have to fight the Nightbeast!

There are different magical houses! I’m a Goose!

I love everything about it!

Also I just learned it comes out in 2022.

Bonus shout-out to How to Find a Princess by Alyssa Cole, which I JUST found out is an Anastasia retelling???

How to Find a Princess: Runaway Royals by Alyssa Cole

I must have it.

A new release you’re excited about from one of your favorite authors

Molly Knox Ostertag has a new graphic novel coming out that I’ve already preordered.

The Girl From the Sea by Molly Knox Ostertag, New York Times Bestselling Author

I actually haven’t read any of Knox Ostertag’s published works, but I HAVE followed her LOTR fanfic from the beginning and it’s beautiful! She’s a wonderful writer and artist!

I just love a sea motif, y’all.

A new release you’re excited about from a new-to-you author

I preordered The Ones We’re Meant to Find at the very last second.

Book bloggers kept calling this their favorite EVER novel about climate change.

Also, would you look at this cover???

The Ones We're Meant to Find by Joan He

I’m reading this book right now and I’m braced for the plot twists.

A new release you have no interest in

I wasn’t super impressed with Mason Deaver’s debut.

They have a new book coming out that I’m pretty meh about.

I’m also judging this new book by its cover.

The Ghosts We Keep by Mason Deaver, author of I Wish You All the Best

Marine blue with orange stripes? Not for me.

A new release you want to pick up soon

My friend Nikita is moving, which I HATE.

We decided to do a long-distance book club and we chose One Last Stop for Pride month!

One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston, New York Times Bestselling Author of Red, White, and Royal Blue: Sometimes love stops you in your tracks.

We’re both very excited about it!

The funniest part is that I’m most stoked about the sapphic romance and she’s excited about the time travel.

We are very different people.

A new release that hasn’t come out yet but you can’t wait to read!

I’m don’t normally read middle grade, but I love an anthology.

This is Our Rainbow is a diverse queer anthology with an AMAZING line-up.

This is Our Rainbow: 16 Stories of Her, Him, Them, and Us by Eric Bell, Ashley Herring Blake, Lisa Jenn Bigelow, Lisa Bunker, Alex Gino, Justina Ireland, Shing Yin Khor, Mariama J. Lockington, Marikete Nijkamp, Claribel A. Ortega, Mark Oshiro, Molly Knox Ostertag, Aida Salazar, A. J. Sass

Edited by Katherine Locke and Nicole Melleby

I’m really excited for this one.

A new release with an amazing cover

The bigger challenge: find a new release that DOESN’T have an amazing cover.

Take a look at The Wild Ones.

The Wild Ones: A Novel by Nafiza Azad: Their magic will not be vanquished.

This cover stunned me the first time I saw it.

Your favorite new release you’ve read so far this year

I’m having trouble choosing between two of the new releases I’ve read this year.

One employs emotional wreckage, the other quiet devastation.

Book #1: The Mirror Season destroyed me.

The Mirror Season by Anna-Marie McLemore

I think this is a really important and moving book about sexual assault.

I loved the magical elements quite a bit.

Anna-Marie McLemore was very open in their author’s note about their own experiences.

I’m grateful for them and hope their case progresses.

Book #2: Honey Girl healed me.

Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers

I liked the friendships and the deep dive into father-daughter relationships.

The mental health stuff hit VERY hard.

This book is very honest. I think it will help a lot of people.

Also, in terms of craft, the writing is BEAUTIFUL. It almost reads like poetry.

I just think it’s neat.

More and more books are released every day and I can’t keep up.

I’m going to share these new releases for no reason because LOOK AT THEM.

The Donut Trap: A novel by Julie Tieu

Between You, Me and the Honeybees by Amelia Diane Coombs

A Psalm for the Wild Built: A Monk and Robot Book by Becky Chambers

Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé: How do you stop an unknown enemy?

There are perfect books everywhere you look.

Go read some!!

    1. It’s such a good cover! How are you liking Cemetery Boys so far?

Also after I published this I fully forgot about Lost in the Never Woods and got distracted by Winter’s Orbit. 😅

      1. OMG I loved Cemetery Boys! GAH! It was so sweet and wholesome. Like I knew I’d like it, but I didn’t think I’d love it so much! Plus the ending I was like WHAT?! So good!
I need to pick up Lost in the Never Woods now; I’m really glad I bought it! 😍 I hope you enjoy it!
