Pre-Netflix Grishaverse Tag

So Netflix is developing a Six of Crows series.

I’m still waiting for news on Syfy’s Raven Cycle adaptation, but Six of Crows should satisfy me till then.

Real-life Jesper, please.

Listen: the fans want their favorite series to be respected.

And, honestly Netflix, it’s best you don’t screw up the representation.

Make up for canceling Tuca and Bertie. And Sense8. And One Day at a Time.

Oh, AND American Vandal? Could you STOP, please?

I snagged this tag from Sahi. She does fun tags, runs a great blog, and reps lots of Desi literature.

Srsly, navigate away for like 10 minutes. Worth it.

(Oh, also…SPOILERS for the Grishaverse.)

Nina Better Be Plus-Sized

a book with fantastic fat rep

Vibes is a decent, underrated, paranormal-lite YA book with a fat protagonist.

Oh, did you want more qualifiers?

Uuuuhhhh the love interest is a skater? And I think there’s a mother-daughter conflict.

And music.

Malina Are Not My OTP

a book where you couldn’t get behind the romance

(spoilers)

(CW: death, cancer, grief, depression)

I liked The Fault in Our Stars…fine.

The Fault in Our Stores.jpg

I cried over it with my friends.

The movie was decent.

I didn’t love August as a love interest, though.

I’m not into persistent, sunny, happy-go-lucky types.

hE pUtS tHe CiGaReTtEs In HiS mOuTh BuT dOeSn’T lIgHt ThEm! It’S a MeTaPhOr!

Uuuughghghgh. WE ALL WENT TO COLLEGE WITH THIS GUY.

He was that friend of a friend who lectured us on The Matrix. Not into it!

Yes, it’s tragic that Hazel and August’s romance couldn’t last…but really, was their relationship that great to begin with?

“Maybe ‘okay’ will be our ‘always.'”

sHuT uUuUuUuUp.

The Darkling Isn’t Dead

a book where you connected with the villain

(CW: violence)

The virus in Illuminae causes psychosis and violent tendencies.

Illuminae

The infected start attacking loved ones and ripping their eyeballs out.

YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT EYE STUFF. SO GROSS.

The attending researcher on the ship Copernicus slowly succumbs to the virus.

As his illness progresses, he exhibits irritation with his coworkers for making noise, shirking duties, and dropping samples.

He eventually snaps when they refuse to stop staring at him.

Though not explicitly stated, the narrative strongly implies that the researcher murdered all his coworkers…and ripped their eyes out. (UGHGHGH.)

Though his actions are horrifying…I GET it.

It WOULD BE NICE to live in a world without noisy construction and incompetent coworkers and slow walkers and neighbors who flip through each individual key on their giant ring of keys while bodyblocking the mailboxes.

And STARING.

What could you POSSIBLY need from me that justifies more than five seconds of attempted eye contact?

Anyway, I may have the virus and will die soon.

Don’t You Dare Whitewash

a book-to-movie/TV show adaptation where the character’s ethnicity was respected

The Maximum Ride movie, a treat for the ages (no, really), cast a black actress as Nudge, which…yay! Ethnicity respected!

Max Ride movie.jpg

Oh…except they cast a white actress as Ella Martinez.

Whoops.

Paper Towns kept the nerdy black best friend black, which is the lowest possible bar to clear but they did it and for some reason that’s notable! Whoooo!

Paper Towns.jpg

(I did really enjoy this movie.)

(If you haven’t seen it: imagine if Dear Evan Hansen was good.)

(YEAH, I SAID IT.)

(Maybe I just hated the book version.)

(“Whole new sexualities and gender identities.” UGUGHGHGH.)

The King of Scars

a book by a beloved author you’re excited about

I spend a lot of time on Rosiee Thor’s Twitter.

She is a fab, ace/aro hero and dog-lover.

Read her #TheAcespecGames analysis.

Thor’s debut novel comes out in October.

Tarnished

My girlfriend will probably be pre-ordering it, so I can steal the book once it arrives.

It looks fun and spacey and I SURE DO LOVE SPACE.

Inej and Kaz

fancast your faves

No.

No Mourners, No Funerals

a book quote that has stuck with you

I have to look up the exact wording now and then, but this quote from Someday, Someday, Maybe makes me tear up.

Somes

“Imagine the best for yourself now and then, won’t you, hon?”
