Sunshine Blogger Award

Hello and welcome!

It’s the Sunshine Blogger Award!

I was tagged by Emily at Embuhleeliest.

I’ve seen Emily around the blogosphere and done some of her original tags (including the excellent Pixar Book Tag), but we only recently started following each other.

Emily stays up-to-date on manga, sci-fi, and fantasy. Her posts are hilarious and concise. READ THEM.

Emily’s questions

What’s your favorite place you’ve ever been?

My high school band visited Victoria, B.C. in my junior year of high school.

We ran through the city all day, eating gelato and talking about movies.

For some reason, I remember laughing over poppyseed muffins on the Clipper.

It was a really fun trip.

What object that you own is the most precious to you?

I bought a gorgeous tarot deck with art by Matt Hughes last fall.

I am stunned by the artwork of the Major Arcana.

The following are two my favorite cards:

This deck is legitimately the best thing I own.

If you were to combine two books to make a better book, which would they be?

Let’s take two books I read recently: Bloodlust & Bonnets, a graphic novel I liked but didn’t love; and Serpent & Dove, a YA fantasy/romance novel I ended up disliking.

Bloodlust needed more of a plot and Serpent needed something to make all the elements gel.

Here’s my idea:

  • Combine the warmth and humor of Bloodlust with Serpent’s high-stakes plotline
  • Remove Serpent’s misogyny (intentional or otherwise)
  • Add even more blood
  • Keep the vampires

We’ve got a winner on our hands.

If you could add some plot device or character twist to a favorite book, what book and what would you add?

Hmm.

I’ve always imagined that Gabe and Tommy Falk from The Scorpio Races were in a relationship.

V5

I would like for that to be made canon. (And for that one Very Bad Thing to be written out because I can’t bear it.)

Did you participate in the Book-It program as a kid? Did they have it where you grew up?

THEY DID HAVE THIS PROGRAM WHERE I GREW UP. I COMPLETELY BLOCKED IT OUT.

That explains why I ate so many Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas as a kid.

My relationships with both reading and pizza are starting to make a lot more sense.

Do you decorate your bookshelves at all?

I keep most of my Funko Pop! collection on my bookshelves, with each character representing a certain genre (e.g., Lando Calrissian for sci-fi, Chirrut Imwe for spirituality, etc.)

I haven’t put Ronan and Chainsaw by my Stiefvater books.

I really should.

Would you rather have a goat scream in your ear every time you sat down to eat dinner, or have to eat dinner standing up for the rest of your life?

I hate having others scream at me.

My heart rate goes up if someone sneezes too loud. I couldn’t handle a mammal hollering in my ear right before I eat.

Standing while eating sounds like a very Seattle thing. It’ll probably become a trend in the next few years.

What’s the most disappointing book you’ve ever read? Not bad, per se, but a let-down.

I shilled SO hard for Hot Dog Girl in the year prior to its release.

I told everyone I knew about it, online and off.

I was so PUMPED to see a cute YA love story with a protagonist who looked like me.

I made room in my heart for this book, predicting that it would become a future favorite.

I was wrong.

I feel like the story has really good bones; with another round of revisions, something great might come out of what already exists.

The ending of this book genuinely made me cry. For the rest of it, my heart just wasn’t in it.

What is your favorite video game, if any?

I’m really invested in Gamehouse’s Heart’s Medicine series.

Doctor's Oath

Right now,  I can only access new story if I collect enough puzzle pieces, which I can only earn through daily play, which only updates ONCE A DAY unless I use some of my diamonds, which I am SAVING for other things!

Progress is slow and sometimes morale is low.

Coffee or tea or something else?

Mochas are very good and you can’t convince me otherwise.

brown cup filled with cappuccino

I like drinking a large cup of dark roast coffee in the morning.

Tea for me is more for evenings and weekends.

One of my favorite combos is tea + knitting + horror movies.

I only drink caffeine tea during emergencies.

Are you a morning person or a night person?

I’ve become an evening person. I do my best writing after 7:00 PM.

And, now that I’m not working super long hours, I get to enjoy my evenings.

My questions

  1. Describe your ideal book that hasn’t been written yet.
  2. What’s your zodiac sign? Do you feel it fits your actual personality?
  3. What are your feelings on glitter?
  4. What do you tend to prioritize most in your life? (e.g., family, mental health, financial stability, etc.)
  5. Would you rather sit in traffic or take a longer route?
  6. If you had a chance to go to an awards show, would you? Why or why not?
  7. You’re at the awards show and you’ve smuggled some food in your purse. What kind of food is it?
  8. What kind of hat fits your personality best?
  9. Have you ever wanted a fictional character’s outfit for yourself? (As seen in a movie/show, on a book cover, described on a page, etc.)
  10. Does your favorite type of fictional ending (happy, bittersweet, or dark) match your favorite type of chocolate (white, milk, or dark)?
  11. Do you eat a special type of food when you’re sick? If yes, what kind?

Welp, that’s that!

My neck hurts, I have a show later, and I’m impatient for the long weekend.

We are SO CLOSE.

  1. Thank you for tagging me! 🙂
I love mochas! They are sooo good! I love that you have tea with caffeine in emergencies haha. I’ve been trying to lower my caffeine intake… let’s just say it’s not going well, I feel like I’m drinking more instead of less 😂
I’m sorry to hear about Hot Dog Girl, I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews of that book. I don’t think I’ll be picking it up.

    1. Caffeine reduction is difficult! My brother has a whole riff about caffeine dependency and it’s like, “Dude, blame capitalism.”

Hot Dog Girl PROMISED THE WORLD. I’m really tired of books promising to be progressive and unique and delivering the same-old, same-old.

      1. OH it is! I don’t usually drink coffee two days in a row because caffeine tends to hit me hard, and today I just gave up and said ‘fuck it, I’m having coffee every day this week!’

SEE! This is why I don’t read blurbs and I try not to give in to hype because I HATE disappointment and shitty promises!
I’d rather go in blind and find I either really love or hate something 😅

    1. Haha you’re welcome! I can’t wait to see your answers! (Did I make the questions obnoxious on purpose? Obviously. This time, though, I didn’t assign homework!)
And you can definitely wear ear muffs! They’re kind of controversial but I think they count as hats!

  3. Congrats! And thanks for nominating me 😀
I love Funko Pops and have them on my shelves too. Those and liquor. For some reason, I always place whatever rum or wine I buy there instead of in the kitchen, smh.

  4. Thank you for the tag, darlin’! You’re so sweet! I live in Canada and I STILL haven’t visited BC … I’m hoping to rectify this either this or next year though …

Those are beautiful! I do find there are a lot of beautiful tarot cards out there!

I don’t even know what the Book-It program is … maybe that’s not a Canadian thing?

FUNKO POPS! I decorate my bookshelves as well … usually with some plants and small picture frames.

Great answers! I loved reading your post! 🙂 ❤

    1. I haven’t been in a decade, but I really loved it! Out of curiosity, which part of Canada do you live in? I think you’ve sad before but Iiii am not super familiar with Canada geography.

Beautiful tarot cards are a PROBLEM. I keep finding decks that I love and coming up with reasons to add to my collection.

I think the Book-It program is US only, not sure. It was a program where Pizza Hut would give kids free personal pan pizzas if they read a certain number of books and it was AWESOME.

Plants!! I love tiny plants! They’re too cute! Do you have little cacti?

      Thank you so much! 🙂

      1. I live in Ontario! And man … that sounds really good (the Book-It program). We had reading programs but nothing like that (that I know of …)

I love little plants! I have a terrarium that I made last year with a few cacti, one on my desk at work, one on my desk at home, some “air” plants that my mom bought me in a little terrarium, and then I have a jade plant ❤

      2. So cute! To be honest, I can’t hear the word “terrarium” without thinking of “The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.” “You can’t keep the Amish in terrariums! For one thing, that would be inhumane!” My neighborhood had an Apple Pay Day where they sold tiny succulents for like $2? They sold out almost immediately!
