Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is a Halloween freebie.
I settled on bookish things that scare me for this week’s theme.
Readers be warned.
Unsatisfying endings
Don’t you hate when you’re reading a book that you’re CERTAIN will be a five-star read only to be betrayed at the end?
My rating for The Intimacy Experiment fell from 4.5 stars to 3.5 and I’m tempted to go even lower.
The end of this book was so disappointing!
It really soured me on The Roommate. I refuse to be disappointed again.

Body horror
I HATE BLOOD AND GUTS.
I am INCREDIBLY SQUEAMISH.
I’ve had to put down MANY a book due to graphic violence.
I just can’t do it.
Oddly, I can watch gory horror films without issue.
I’m not sure what the difference is.

Hardcover DNFs
Hardcovers are EXPENSIVE.
Whenever I buy a hardcover, I am SO afraid that I will hate the book or WORSE, not finish it.
I’ve DNFed two hardcovers this month.
I feel FOOLISH, like I’ve wasted my hard-earned dollars.
More reason to buy paperbacks instead.

Mediocre anticipated books
I’m reading one of my most anticipated books of 2021 and it is solidly AVERAGE.
I AM VERY BUMMED BY THIS.
BookTok keeps calling it their favorite book of the season.
It is NOT MINE.
This is my biggest book fear! I wish I had zero expectations, but THAT’S NOT WHO I AM.

My favorite characters getting a Day in the Limelight
Why is my favorite character getting so much page time?
Are they going to die!?!?

The barn scene from The Scorpio Races
It’s been ten years since I first read this scene and I am still afraid.
Nobody move.
It can’t see us if we stay still.

Sequels
I have MANY fears regarding sequels.
- What if the remaining books in the series never get published?
- What if I don’t like the rest of the books?
- What if the sequel ruins the original book(s) for me?
- What if I can’t find the next book in the series and have to special-order/put it on hold?
Sequels are sensitive things.
Twice Upon a Marigold almost ruined the first book for me, so I pretend it never happened.

Cover redesigns
WHY, publishers? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?
I don’t know which is worse: getting new cover art in the middle of the series and messing up my collection OR getting SUPERIOR cover art and wanting to replace my current books with it.
I think I’m most offended when the original books have GOOD art and the redesigns are awful by comparison.
(This is a Ruby Oliver call-out post.)

Delayed publication dates
Allegedly, fans aren’t getting any new ACOTAR books until 2023.
(Also, there’s a worldwide paper shortage and I am FREAKING out.)
I don’t like that.
What if I forget everything that happens in the series?
What if my hyperfixation burns out and I no longer care by the time the next book comes out?
Same goes for the Dark Olympus books.
I am a fickle being.

Book-themed wax melts
Literally what am I supposed to do with these?? Where are their wicks??
Happy Halloweenie, beanies.
I am well and truly spooked after listing these fears.
If someone could come and banish the book-themed wax melts currently hiding in my apartment, that would be amazing.
I’m obsessed with wax melts! You want something like this (https://cdn.lisaangel.co.uk/image/cache/data/product-images/aw21/wx-aw21/grooved-white-wax-melt-burner-0v8a0122-515×515.jpeg), stick a tea light in the bottom, light it, stick your wax melt on top and watch it melt. Tip: you can get 2-3 uses reburning the wax but once the smell goes soak up the wet wax with a cotton pad for fast cleaning.
Uh thanks for coming to my TedTalk 😂
