Too Much Information Book Tag

HELLO.

I HAVE BEEN DOWN IN THE DUMPS.

This week, I’ve regained some of my motivation and have resumed cooking, reading, and watching TV (mainly Netflix reality shows and Jessica Jones.)

Sleep and inspiration, however, continue to elude me.

To take my mind off of things, here I am with a lengthy tag that I found on Sahi’s blog.

Jesse the Reader names the creator in this video, though I couldn’t find the original tag link anywhere online.

Enough talk, let’s go!

WHAT FICTIONAL CHARACTER HAS THE BEST STYLE?

It’s possible I dreamed this…but I’m fairly certain Crier wore a number of extravagant gowns in Crier’s War.

Crier's War

The one I’m thinking of is white with long sleeves, an illusion neckline, and diamonds on the bodice and skirt.

Fanart, please.

YOUR BOOK GIRLFRIEND/BOYFRIEND/ FICTIONAL CRUSH?

Hypnos from The Gilded Wolves is awful…and I love him for it.

THe Gilded Wolves

He’s so fancy and complicated! He wears emerald-studded shoes!

I hope he and Enrique hit it off, but I FEEL LIKE THAT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

EVER LOVED A CHARACTER BUT THEN STARTED HATING THEM?

I liked Riden a lot from the Daughter of the Pirate King duology…until he started complaining.

I felt like he put his need to protect Alosa over trusting in her abilities.

He came across as a controlling know-it-all.

I was not into their relationship dynamic.

BIGGEST/LONGEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?

I think it’s a close-call between Winter by Marissa Meyer and Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor (both of them final books in a series.)

Turns out I own lots of thick books that are less intimidating than they appear on first glance.

Have I read any of them?

…next question.

HEAVIEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?

Like…emotionally?

I don’t think this is my actual heaviest book, but my NKJV Bible has some heft to it.

Could I thump people with it? Absolutely.

Will I? No.

DO YOU HAVE ANY BOOK POSTERS?

I have a 100 Books Bucket List poster that my mom bought me for Christmas.

I’ve only read 20-25% of the books on the poster.

I HAVE MY WHOLE LIFE TO COMPLETE IT.

DO YOU HAVE ANY BOOK THEMED JEWELRY?

I DO!!!

LOTS, in fact!

I own

  • a silver raven pendant inspired by Chainsaw from The Raven Cycle
  • a miniature copy of the Polish edition of The Scorpio Races
  • a rubber bracelet I won during NaNoWriMo 2019
  • a beaded chakra bracelet I bought because it reminded me of Kyo’s blood-and-bone bracelet from Fruits Basket
  • a large pendant with a quote and illustration from Winnie the Pooh
  • a rose quartz pendant based on Riley’s rose quartz necklace from Undead Girl Gang

Are you surprised that I’m this into jewelry?

What can I say? I contain multitudes.

BOOK OTP?

So listen.

I reread Bitterblue recently and I stand by my non-canonical Bitterblue/Giddon ship.

Bitterblue

It’s a slow-burn friends-to-lovers dynamic that’s very gradual.

IT DESERVES AN ON-THE-PAGE CONFIRMATION.

FAVORITE BOOK SERIES?

The Lunar Chronicles gave me everything I wanted in a book series and I’m giddy with each and every reread.

Lunar Chronicles

These books are fun and well-written and thoroughly researched.

They contain romance, adventure, and high drama.

They fill me with joy.

FAVORITE BOOK-TO-MOVIE SOUNDTRACK?

I LOVE movie soundtracks. I listen to them all the time.

Sky High? That’s a good one.

Begin Again? A perfect film with excellent music.

Simon 1

As for book adaptations, the Love, Simon soundtrack features Bleachers (one of my favorite bands), some camp classics, and doo-wop.

The Whitney Houston selection rings especially true during this crisis: I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY, WITH SOMEBODY WHO LOVES ME.

A BOOK STORY YOU MISS/ WISH WOULD CONTINUE?

Did I not just beg for a Bitterblue follow-up?

THE GRACELING SERIES NEEDS MORE VOLUMES.

PLEASE.

I BEG OF THEE.

FAVORITE STAND-ALONE?

I reread The Scorpio Races every November and hype it incessantly during the months between.

V5

It’s THE BEST.

The Scorpio Sea Tarot comes out this fall with art based on the book.

OBVIOUSLY I NEED IT.

SINCE WHEN DID YOU READ BOOKS?

The wording of this question is so confrontational.

I’ve been reading since I was 5 or 6.

I didn’t acquire the focus needed for chapter books until a few years later.

WHICH HOGWARTS HOUSE ARE YOU IN?

NO. WE’RE NOT DOING THIS. I HAVE BEEF WITH THE HOUSE SYSTEM.

I no longer believe anyone who claims to belong to a certain house.

I know too many cliff-divers and thrill-seekers who claim to be “total Ravenclaws” and far too many blunt and confrontational people who say they’re “SUCH Hufflepuffs.”

ALL OF YOU ARE WRONG.

As a Ravenclaw, I would know.

QUALITY YOU LOOK FOR IN A BOOK?

Elicits strong emotions. (Preferably not wrath.)

FAVORITE BOOK QUOTE

I love a snappy bit of dialogue. Here’s a collection of quotes from The Raven Cycle:

(Rated R for language)

“Don’t fucking swear.”

“I’m still not eating pizza.”

“Safe as life.”

FAVORITE AUTHOR?

These are some of my auto-buy authors:

  • Maggie Stiefvater
  • Kristin Cashore
  • Margaret Owen
  • Lily Anderson
  • Marissa Meyer
  • Nina LaCour

FAVORITE BOOK COVER?

I love looking at the cover of The Scapegracers.

Scapegracers

At the moment, this is my most anticipated release.

ACTION OR ROMANCE?

Why not both?

I like an even balance in my books.

A perfect FILM example of this occurred in As Above, So Below.

The romance is largely implied, but there a couple big emotional moments that really got to me.

As for action, the movie is super-tense nonstop horror.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

(Be warned: if you are claustrophobic or afraid of the dark LIKE I AM, this may be a difficult watch.)

WHERE DO YOU GO WHEN A SAD MOMENT HAPPENS?

I either lie back or flop forward on my bed.

When in public, I cry it out.

HOW LONG DO YOU NEED TO FINISH A BOOK?

Probably two days, unless I pull an all-dayer/nighter OR fall into a slump.

HOW LONG IS YOUR MOURNING PERIOD?

I typically grieve for one to four days.

Even after the initial mourning period, the grief can last for years.

I’ll be hit with a bookish memory out of nowhere and feel too sad to move.

I JUST THOUGHT ABOUT [REDACTED] FROM SCARLET AGAIN.

I WILL NEVER NOT BE HURT BY THIS.

LEAST FAVORITE BOOK?

I HATED Chaotic Good…but nowhere near as much as I despised The Art of Racing in the Rain.

The hatred flows thick and fast. It cannot be stopped.

Honorable mention goes to The Nobleman’s Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks because I am tired.

TURN-ON IN A CHARACTER?

Gruff yet soft.

Also, yearning.

TURN-OFF IN A CHARACTER?

Cruelty.

REASON I STARTED BLOGGING?

Star Wars reasons. We don’t have to talk about it.

NAME A SCARY BOOK?

I stupidly read Karen Thompson Walker’s The Dreamers DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC.

Dreamers

It was terrifyingly accurate.

This book might be why I’ve been feeling extra panicked lately.

LAST BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY?

Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune had me sobbing.

Natalie Tan Love Fortune

Roselle Lim promises her newest book, Vanessa Yu’s Magical Paris Tea Shop, is a happier read.

I’ll probably still cry while reading it and I’m totally okay with this.

LAST BOOK THAT YOU GAVE 5 STARS?

Natalie Tan, y’all!

Natalie Tan Love Fortune

This book was magical!

I felt so many feelings!

ANY FAVORITE BOOK TITLES?

Any sort of pithy, violent-sounding title is my favorite.

Undead Girl Gang, Cemetery Boys, and Bloodlust & Bonnets appeal to me.

LAST BOOK YOU READ?

Natalie Tan was the last book I finished.

Natalie Tan Love Fortune

I have since started three new books and finished none of them!

BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?

I’m in the middle of AT LEAST SIX.

I’m halfway through Elysium Girls.

Elysium Girls

It’s fun. I believe mechanical horses are on the horizon.

YOU KNOW I LOVE HORSE LITERATURE.

LAST BOOK ADAPTATION YOU WATCHED?

I just started Jessica Jones, which is based on a comic book series.

I stayed up late last night to finish the episode I was watching and OH MAN.

I have feelings about the ships in this show.

A BOOK CHARACTER YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO TALK TO?

The Princess Diaries series is essentially my 14-book autobiography.

I feel like Mia Thermopolis and I understand each other perfectly.

AN AUTHOR YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO TALK TO?

There’s a cohort of PNW debut authors that I would like to befriend.

Don’t tell them – I’m embarrassed.

Or do tell them!

Don’t, though.

But…do.

FAVORITE BOOK SNACK?

M&MS!! They are the holiest of book snacks!

Ice cream is also good or chocolate of any kind.

I may need to go on an ice cream run.

BOOK WORLD YOU WANT TO LIVE IN?

The society in Beyond the Black Door had a fairly solid understanding of the different types of attraction.

Beyond the Black Door

Also, the architecture sounded gorgeous.

I feel like the cuisine was really raisin-heavy? Sign me up.

BOOK WORLD YOU DON’T WANT TO LIVE IN?

I agree with Sahi – Ketterdam seems bleak.

Crooked Kingdom

I wouldn’t go there even if it meant hanging with Jesper Fahey.

LAST TIME YOU SMELLED A BOOK?

Yesterday.

I thought I smelled formaldehyde and couldn’t tell if it was me or the new book I’d ordered.

(IT WAS ME.)

WEIRD INSULTS USED IN BOOKS?

From The Fellowship of the Ring:

“A plague on Dwarves and your stiff necks!”

Here’s another from Blue Lily, Lily Blue, in which Ronan seethes, “Maybe I dreamed you!” at his crush.

FAVORITE ROMANCE BOOK?

Scarlet or Fire, two books about redheads who woo strong-and-silent warriors.

I could also mention The Scorpio Races once again, as it fits that description perfectly.

WHY IS THIS MY IDEAL BOOK TYPE?

DO YOU WRITE?

I do! I write fiction on occasion, usually contemporary.

I would like to write fantasy, though I struggle with worldbuilding.

FAVORITE MAGICAL ITEM?

Nothing beats a magical horse or a magical necklace.

In fact, magical necklace might beat out magical horse.

REFER BACK TO MY EXTENSIVE NECKLACE COLLECTION.

YOUR QUIDDITCH POSITION?

Nope.

After years of playing in the pep band, I never want to play or watch sports again.

NAME A SONG YOU CONNECT TO A BOOK

Any time there’s a “romance or reward” storyline (e.g., Anastasia), I think of Bleachers’ “Don’t Take the Money.”

The Merciful Crow fits the bill.

Merciful Crow

DON’T TAKE THE MONEY!

DON’T TAKE THE MONEY!

FAVORITE BOOK-RELATED CHAT-UP LINE?

I once gushed to a guy I liked about Leah Konen’s The Romantics.

Romantics

I am still single.

HAVE YOU EVER USED IT?

See above story.

FAVORITE BOOK FANDOM?

Lunar Chronicles fans tend to be really nice people.

I’m also fond of Raven Cycle pals.

One of my Twitter friends is a Maggie Stiefvater stan and I love her for it.

HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU OWN?

It’s best we don’t talk about it.

WHO DO YOU TAG?

It’s 50 questions! If that’s your jam, be my guest!

img_1107-1

Whew.

That was a hefty tag, but I FINISHED it.

That’s one accomplishment for the week.

I feel inspired to go to the store for coffee filters and ice cream!

HOORAY FOR MOTIVATION!

  1. Ah, this was enjoyable to read… as always! That poster of 100 Books Bucket List sounds like fun!
The soundtrack to Love Simon, I agree, is a pretty good soundtrack… omg though, Begin Again… that soundtrack, wooof I both loved that film and the soundtrack is SO GOOD! 😀
You’ve got me wanting to re-read the Scorpio Races… you’re love for it makes me want to read it al over again!
    I hope you’re keeping well 🙂

    1. Haha thank you! The poster is pretty interesting – it’s a scratch-off poster so you can see how many books you’ve read. My cousin has a 100 Movies version that I covet.

BEGIN AGAIN IS SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. I keep thinking about watching it, but it’s a very specific type of sad movie. I never know if it’ll be TOO MUCH emotion on any given day.

Aaaah The Scorpio Races has my whole heart! I WILL EVEN ACT IT OUT if you decide you don’t want to reread it right now!

Thanks! I am doing all right! Hope you’re doing okay!

      1. Omg… now I want one of those posters even more! Scratch off sounds like so much fun! 😀
It is such a good movie!! Talking about it has made me want to re-watch it. I think I’ve prepared myself enough to watch it.

OMG! You are TOO funny… 😂😂 Yes please, I will take you up on your offer, I would love it if you’d act out the Scorpio Races!

I’m okay, taking things day by day.
