Reputation Book Tag

I told you. It’s rereads and book tags from here on out.

I found this one at Mollie the Reader and had a lot of fun with the answers.

I tried not to choose the same ten books that I usually mention.

Track One: …Ready For It – a book that you are sooooo ready to read and need to read it ASAP?

I…might not be ready to commit to House of Sky and Breath.

House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas

I started it! I want to read it! I am just afraid!

Track Two: End Game – a book where your ship became endgame?

(Spoilers for Fruits Basket)

I have been riding the high of my Fruits Basket ship winning out for over a decade.

Fruits Basket vol 23 by Natsuki Takaya

TOHRU AND KYO FELL IN LOVE AND SUPPORTED EACH OTHER AND IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!

THE BROKEN BOY WON!

I gotta reread this series.

I am A LITTLE TOO EMOTIONAL at the moment to watch the 2019 anime. Maybe one of these days.

Track Three: I Did Something Bad – a character that did something bad but had no regrets?

(Spoilers for The Comeback)

The Comeback by Ella Berman

Grace Turner of The Comeback took down a beloved cultural icon.

She also drove a car with him in it off a cliff.

(He deserved it.)

Track Four: Don’t Blame Me – a book that a lot of people don’t like but you can’t help but secretly love?

Mona Awad’s books can be…polarizing.

Bunny was the first book of hers I read and IT IS A RIDE.

Bunny by Mona Awad

A lot of people dislike this book and that’s okay!

I really liked it! I relived my entire college career while reading it!

It wasn’t a super pleasant experience but it was funny!

Please keep reframing the absolute horror of critique circles as Lynchian body horror!!

Track Five: Delicate – a character that you find to be very delicate?

(Spoilers for A Court of Wings and Ruin)

Elain Archeron killed a guy and is working on growing a spine.

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas

Overall, though, she’s very fragile.

Track Six: Look What You Made Me Do – an author whose books ALWAYS make you cry or feel deep emotions?

Everything ND Stevenson produces moves me to my core.

The Fire Never Goes Out: A Memoir in Pictures by ND Stevenson

I follow his Substack, so several times a week I get to read his comics and weep.

Fingers crossed he has a new book coming.

Track Seven: So It Goes… – a book series that goes from a good start to a bad/meh ending?

The first two volumes of Heathen were some of the best comics I read last year.

Heathen Volume 1 by Natasha Alterici and Rachel Deering

The last volume is bad.

The first two volumes set up some BIG GAY CONFLICT and A HEAVENLY WAR, introducing NEW CHARACTERS and SETTINGS all the while!

The final volume…wraps up the story without acknowledging any of that.

It’s disappointing.

I thought the foxes were going to be more significant.

Track Eight: Gorgeous – a book you bought because of the cover?

I bought Astro Poets IN HARDCOVER after seeing it displayed at my local indie bookstore.

Astro Poets: Your Guides to the Zodiac by Alex Dimitrov & Dorothea Lasky

I knew vaguely that it was about astrology. I just loved the cover so much.

I STILL love this book. Time to reread.

Track Nine: Getaway Car – do you read books in the car/public transport?

I get carsick, but said carsickness is very inconsistent.

I can read on the bus if there’s enough light and my stomach feels okay and the bus driver isn’t slamming on the brakes and the other passengers aren’t LETTING THEIR PHONES RING FOR THE WHOLE RIDE.

(I hate public transportation.)

Track Ten: King Of My Heart – a fictional character that owns your heart?

I reread Far From the Tree recently and I would do anything for Joaquin.

Far From the Tree by Robin Benway

He’s been through SO MUCH SHIT. He loves his siblings SO MUCH.

I just want him to have a safe, full life.

Track Eleven: Dancing With Our Hands Tied – a book that had you tied in from the first sentence?

I didn’t think I was going to like The Councillor.

The Councillor by E. J. Beaton

I decided to “give it a try” and, lo and behold, I am now obsessed with it.

I wasn’t expecting it to go so hard from jump!

Track Twelve: Dress – a character who has a similar sense of fashion to you?

I read a lot of contemporary YA between 2003 and 2017.

Many of the heroines, who were Not Like the Other Girls, wore BAGGY HOODIES and CONVERSE just like I did (and still do.)

I guess wearing CLOTHES makes you an INDIVIDUAL.

(The Not Like the Other Girls trope was often used to slut-shame feminine girls, so HEY, LITERATURE IN THE 2000S WASN’T ALWAYS GREAT.)

Track Thirteen: This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things – a shady character that you dislike?

I GENUINELY DON’T UNDERSTAND THE HYPE AROUND DARLINGTON.

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

I don’t trust him, I don’t feel for him, and I don’t LIKE him.

This is my THIRD OR FOURTH reread and I STILL HATE HIM.

I might be the only Ninth House fan who feels this way.

It’s frustrating.

Track Fourteen: Call It What You Want – if you had to call one fictional character to humanity who would you choose and why?

Dan of Someday, Someday, Maybe is one of my favorite literary love interests.

Someday Someday Maybe by Lauren Graham

He just CARES! SO MUCH! ABOUT EVERYTHING!

HE RISKS IT ALL TO BE TRUE TO HIMSELF!

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!

I wouldn’t mind ending up with a Dan.

Track Fifteen: New Year’s Day – a book you can’t wait to read in the new year?

It’s still early in the year and there are books I’m excited to read!

My cousin bought me To Say Nothing of the Dog for Christmas, citing is as one of her favorite books of all time.

To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis

I know NOTHING about it, so I’m stoked.

Happy Taylor Swift Tuesday, baybee.

This…is not actually a thing I’m doing.

Maybe it should be.

I’m going to keep doing book tags until morale improves.
