This book tag has 15 prompts and I need a distraction.
From what? School, mostly.
Do I spend more time complaining about school than I spend doing homework? Yes.
I’m going to reveal whether I was part of the fandoms named in this tag.
I currently belong to the Our Flag Means Death fandom and have no plans to leave.
DOCTOR WHO: A BOOK WITH A (MOSTLY) BLUE COVER
Was I part of this fandom: Not really
I’m obsessed with The Truth of the Divine‘s cover.
It’s so pretty and celestial!

MARVEL: A BOOK WITH A (MOSTLY) RED COVER
Was I part of this fandom: Eh
Axiom’s End, the first book in the Noumena trilogy, is red!
Huzzah!

THE SIMPSONS: A BOOK WITH A (MOSTLY) YELLOW COVER
Was I part of this fandom: Nope
The Donut Trap has a BRIGHT yellow cover.
The cover was 50% of the reason I bought this book. LOOK AT IT.

SUPERNATURAL: A BOOK WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER COMES BACK TO LIFE
Was I part of this fandom: Never
(Spoilers for Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal)
This is, to my own surprise, not a Jesus joke. (Missed opportunity, I know.)
In Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal, the titular Biff eventually comes back to life.
He gets to walk off into the sunset with Maggie, so that’s nice.

SHERLOCK: A BOOK FEATURING A PSYCHOPATH/SOCIOPATH
Was I part of this fandom: I tried but it wasn’t for me
(Spoilers for The Lost Village by Camilla Sten)
Would you believe that the most dangerous person in The Lost Village is not, in fact, the mentally ill person but the person with the most power and influence?
I am continually frustrated by the horror/thriller genre(s). Authors, get a new hobby that ISN’T demonizing mental illness.
Horror stories from the POV of someone being victimized by society because of their mental illness would be ONE THOUSAND TIMES more interesting than, “KARLA’S OFF HER MEDS, SHE MIGHT BE DANGEROUS.”
No one needs that story to be told YET AGAIN.
I’m tired.

ONCE UPON A TIME: A BOOK INSPIRED BY FAIRYTALES OR IS A RETELLING OF FAIRYTALES
Was I part of this fandom: Unfortunately
Malice is a sapphic Sleeping Beauty retelling I still haven’t read.
I recently learned there is a sequel out next month.

BREAKING BAD: A BOOK REVOLVING AROUND DRUGS
Was I part of this fandom: Managed to miss this one
Morphine addiction plays a big part in The Gargoyle.
I didn’t like this book for a lot of reasons.
Unfortunately, one particular plot point impacted my current WIP.
I don’t want to talk about it. Just know that I am livid.

GAME OF THRONES: A BOOK FEATURING DRAGONS
Was I part of this fandom: Yeah…yeah
The Dragon’s Bride has…dragons.
I refuse to apologize for this.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: A BOOK REVOLVING AROUND AN AGENCY OR A SECRET GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION
Was I part of this fandom: Tangentially
My understanding of this book starts and stops with the 2006 film controversy.
The Da Vinci Code is about the papacy and the Illuminati, yeah?
They’re in your walls or something?
I don’t know.

CHARMED: A BOOK ABOUT SISTERS
Was I part of this fandom: This was before my time
I thought I remembered that A River of Royal Blood was about sisters!
Eva and Isa have to fight for the crown.
Love it, here for it.

GRIMM: A BOOK THAT FEATURES A MONSTER
Was I part of this fandom: Not at all
The Beldam from Coraline certainly qualifies.
I read this book for the first time and IT’S SCARY.
THANKS A BUNCH, NEIL.

THE WALKING DEAD: A BOOK ABOUT ZOMBIES
Was I part of this fandom: Couldn’t get into it
The Girl With All the Gifts has been out long enough that I guess I can reveal that it’s about zombies.
Like Coraline, it is very scary, not to mention SAD.
I learned there was a sort-of sequel and stayed far, far away.
M. R. Carey is very talented and I want nothing more to do with him.

STAR TREK: A BOOK FEATURING ALIENS OR THAT TAKES PLACE IN SPACE
Was I part of this fandom: Hardcore fans would say no
WELCOME BACK TO THE BLOG, THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE.
I guess the theme of this post is Books That Absolutely Traumatized Me.
No thanks at all to the friend who lent me her copy thinking, “It doesn’t count as thriller, it’s set in space.”

THE HUNGER GAMES: A BOOK IN WHICH KIDS/TEENAGERS ARE MURDERED OR DIE
Was I part of this fandom: Sure was
WHO CAME UP WITH THIS PROMPT???
Child death is a main plot point in The Last House on Needless Street.
Surprisingly, that is NOT the reason I despised this book and refused to finish it!

PERCY JACKSON: A BOOK BASED ON ANCIENT GREEK MYTHS
Was I part of this fandom: I was not
WICKED BEAUTY COMES OUT IN JUNE!
HELEN OF TROY, ACHILLES, AND PATROCLUS?
I know for a fact I will enjoy this one thousand times more than The Song of Achilles.
Look at all these books!
I’ve got approximately 19,000 more book tags locked and loaded. Let’s do this.
Oooh I love this tag! Definitely want to do it myself now! So many fandoms I wasn’t in either!

It was a fun one! I feel like I was aware of most of these fandoms, so that counts, right?

I know you super disliked The Last House on Needless Street – but to make it’s case (having read it, and not listened to an audiobook of it, which I think would REALLY change how I experienced this story) It is a horror story that ABSOLUTELY subverts the Mental Illness is Scary trope. The villain was the abuser that lead to someone developing a disorder all along! Mental “disorders” can protect a person in a society that doesn’t!

See, that theme sounds dope! That said, the audiobook could be used to torture people!
