To Anthony @ Keep Reading Forward: I'm stoked you made another Halloween Creatures post! Once again, I pair Halloween creatures with books. Witch A magical character or book I READ SO MUCH FANTASY. THIS SHOULDN'T BE HARD. If I remember correctly, Rowan's mom was a legit witch. That MUST count. Werewolf The perfect… Continue reading Halloween Creatures 2.0 Book Tag

You’re Not Good Enough Book Tag
I had a hard time coming up with characters for this book tag. I need to read more YA. With "adult" novels, I don't tend to care about (or remember) the characters. "The THEMES are the really important thing-" No. False. Write better characters. ANYWAY. I found this tag and loved it. The gist of… Continue reading You’re Not Good Enough Book Tag

NOPE Book Tag
I KEEP FINDING GREAT TAGS. This is another one I found on The Book Nut. Book tags are giving me a reason to live. At work, I'm so excited to clock out, come home, and write about books I love. I challenge myself to come up with different books every time. And the bummer tags are… Continue reading NOPE Book Tag
10 Day Book Blog Post Challenge #2: Discuss a character
I'll be real: I did not think this post through. It's exciting! I'm improvising! And I'm surrounded by books! Surely a character will come to me! ...soon! Oh. Oh no. Fantasy Feminist Team
I'm finally doing it. I'm forming a girl squad. I've put it off for years because my friends keep choosing true love over the sisterhood. They tell me marriage is a whole lot of fun. BUT IS IT? GIRL SQUAD, ASSEMBLE! What would this squad do? I don't know. Win? Fight for love and justice?… Continue reading Fantasy Feminist Team
TERRIBLE PROSE TUESDAY: Harry Potter phenomena I don’t understand
The Harry Potter fanbase has decided on things that I don't agree with and/or comprehend and I wanted to take today to go through some of those things.
MAKE-YOU-CRY MONDAY: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
I have hazy memories of exactly when I read each of the Harry Potter books, but I remember Order of the Phoenix clearly: In sixth grade, I was finishing the last few chapters of OOTP in my room before my mom drove me to school. In chapter 37, following Sirius' death, Harry meets with Dumbledore to discuss the prophecy and ends up tearing apart Dumbledore's office. I started sobbing on the floor of my bedroom. My mom knew I was upset when I got in the car, but she made me go to school anyway.
TERRIBLE PROSE TUESDAY: Vague physical descriptions
"Bronze-colored hair?" You mean the color you don't want to win in the Olympics?
TERRIBLE PROSE TUESDAY: Obvious villain is obvious
Love triangles are a fixture of many romances. I have mixed feelings about them, but I have no problem with another character posing an obstacle to the main love story, especially if it's done well (see Clockwork Prince.) As this book is a modern-day retelling of Pride and Prejudice, it's only fitting that the heroine of Jenni James' Pride… Continue reading TERRIBLE PROSE TUESDAY: Obvious villain is obvious
